Wip Wednesday #15

Knitting and Books

Well its Wednesday again, it really does come round so fast! First I'll give you a wee health update: in short its not good, had a rather large asthma attack on Monday and back to the doctor, on more steroids and off work for the rest of the week. If there is still no improvment by Thursday I have to go back and see about alternative treatments. So not having much fun!

Anyway onto the knitting. I have managed to get quite a bit of knitting done. First up is the cable bag
It was going really well, however as you can see in the photo I have made a mistake. There I was knitting away on Sunday night and my phone rang, it was my mum (checking to see how I was doing) once I had spoken to her I picked up my knitting and away I went again, after about 20 seconds I realised I couldn't remember which row I was on. I had put my knitting down so quickly when the phone rang I forgot to pay attention to where I was, which has resulted in the above error! I have decided though its ok, I'm learning this is part of the journey, I am just going to make the bag longer and have the mistake at the bottom! Problem solved!

Next up is James' jumper
I have a sleeve! Now this has also been a bit tricky, I pattern says to increase one every six rows, this sounds fine, however I only know how to make one, so I thought how hard can increasing the other way be? Turns out quite hard, I'm not sure if it was just because I was feeling less than a 100% but after an hour and four tries and lots of frogging I gave up and did it the way I know. Turns out my way is fine, sleeve is done and looks fine. I will keep practicing the other way but I think just on a practice peice and when I can breath properly.

Now a new element to wip Wednesday, books! I have seen these book and knitting post around and did wonder what it was all about and decided to have a wee look. So I found out that a blog called small things does a linky party on a Wednesday that includes what you are reading and you knitting. So here is this weeks book
All I'll say is I love a good murder!

Well that's me for today off to visit Tamis

  1. I really hope they can help you for your asthma, as I can imagine you feel exhausted not being able to breathe properly.

Your cable bag is looking good, and you have found a way to combat your error...so none of that ripping out stuff :)

From what you describe of the jumper makes knitting sound so hard, I only know how to do basic things like knitting a scarf (which took me a month). I wish you luck with everything.

Take care and hope you get better!

  2. Sorry to hear that your health is not improving, I hope that you start to feel better soon! Your knitting is really coming along nicely and I like that you can adapt when it doesn't go quite right. Your bag will be fine with the oops bit at the bottom : )

  3. I've been doing that too much lately! Start talking and losing where I am. But it's not that noticeable. At least in the picture.

  7. Seems like my husband always comes into the room and starts talking to me when I am counting stitches or doing a cable and throws me off. Grrrr. Mistakes happen though, it just proves things are hand made and wonderful. I hope you feel better soon.

  8. Sleeve increases are on the underside, no one will note them, do them how you prefer! Love the color of the sweater.

  9. Yay, murder + knitting! I have to pick up some raveling-themed murder mystery books at some point. They exist, and it intrigues me. :)

Good solution to your bag problem, by the way. :)

  11. Hi from Yarn Along linkup: I've done that losing-my-place/distraction thing so many times, and I almost always gloss over it and carry on regardless! Most people never notice in my experience - mother-in-law excepted :0/

Hope your health improves - poor you, must be awful.

  17. I am so sorry you are not feeling well. I hope the meds work this time and you don't have to go back for different treatment.

If you hadn't said there was a mistake I probably wouldn't have noticed it right off. Looks pretty and I like the color.

  21. I love your attitude on the knitting mistake! Sometimes I am so hard on myself with my knitting. I probably would have frogged the whole thing in frustration. I love that you are viewing it as a learning experience.

Hope you are feeling better now. I,too, have asthma and am all too familiar about being put on steroids for it. Sending you get well ~~vibes~~ :)

  22. Hi Sam, I am sorry to hear you are not so good. Try to take it a bit easy this week and get a good rest. Asthma really takes it out of you. I have done the same with my knitting and I get so annoyed with myself! I have to walk away from it in the end and then come back and things are then fine!! Usually things do go wrong when I am not feeling well myself. Bee x

  24. I hope that your asthma gets better soon. Your projects are looking great. Congrats on getting a sleeve! There are some great videos on YouTube that shows you how to do different increases and decreases. I am the type of person that needs to see the technique done in order to learn it.

  30. Love the color of the jumper, but wanted to ask is a jumper a sweater? When I hear the word jumper I think of a dress like item that one wears a blouse under; but since you said James, I wondered if jumper meant sweater?
