Wip Wednesday #9

I can't believe how quickly these wip Wednesday's seem to come around! I have made some progress on my tie top this week but I have to admit not quite as much as I'd hoped.
As you can see I've finished the first section of the pattern repeat and I'm nearing the end of the second one. The rectangles get thinner and shorter the further up the top you get! I am starting to get worried though as the next part of the pattern isn't written down, it on a diagram. I think I know what to do and how to read it but I am really nervous that I will mess it up, I hate frogging and I'm really not very good at it! Also I have been doing so well I don't want to get it wrong now. Fingers crossed!
I had another little drama with this top this week, I went to buy the rest of the yarn (I had only bought a couple of balls in case I couldn't do it) but the store had completely sold out and when I asked the unhelpful assistant, she said they wouldn't be getting more in! I was not happy! But ever resourceful I went onto my iphone and looked online, I was very lucky and found someone selling 9 balls all from the same dye lot! HOORAY! I quickly ordered the amount I needed and went for a coffee, crises averted! I know I should have all the yarn from the same dye lot but when they came yesterday they all look pretty similar so I'm hoping it wont make too much difference. But I think my lesson is truly learnt!

I am also thinking about casting on something else this week. I only have the tie top on the needles at the moment and I am getting a little bored with just knitting the same thing. Does that happen to you? So next week you could see two wips! How exciting!!

  1. I totally get bored if I only have one thing on the needles, so I don't blame you wanted to cast something else on. You're making great progress on your top :)

  2. It's looking good so far! I always have two things on the go. I find when I'm making something that repeats a lot, I just lose concentration and start making mistakes, so having something else to swap to helps.

  3. I'd thread a lifeline before the chart, if I were you. Just in case.

Lucky you could get the same dyelot. Unfortunately this happens to me a lot; I've used Ravelry to find more of the same dyelot!

I definitely need more than one thing going at a time. Usually something involved, balanced by small "instant gratification" projects!

  6. I'm glad you found the matching yarn that must have been a terrifying moment. I adore the colour and I hope you manage to survive the chart. Great job so far.

Take care and enjoy the rest of your day.

  8. I'm not so clever when it comes to charts, I found that if I write out the chart, I am a happy camper!

As for not having the yarn, I have to admit that never happens to me, I always overbuy, hence my extremely large stash of one skein of yarns!

  9. If you're worried about the dyelot you can just switch skeins every other row and it should all blend in fine. :)

  12. I keep a few things on the needles ... one simple project, one medium one, and one difficult one. That way, no matter what mood I'm in, I have something to knit that matches!

Looking forward to seeing the tie top all done!

  13. Great texture on the top. I love that coffee solves everything!

I always have a few WIPs on the go at once. One for the train, one for home. Some other random stuff that's almost forgotten.

    Thanks for visiting my blog!

  14. The top is looking great. It is neat to see how the pattern develops. Reading from a chart is easy once you get started, so no worries! Also, one trick that I learned to avoid a change in color from different dye lots is to knit two rows with the new dye lot, then switch for two rows using the old dye lot, etc. Having two or more WIP's keeps the knitting interesting, right?

  15. I usually have a few projects going: one that I do on my subway commute, one that is suitable for tv watching that stays at home, and one long term project that I pick up when I need a break.

  17. I always have the itch to start something new, even if I have a few things in progress. It's good to have different stuff going so you have a project for every mood.

The top looks great! What pattern is it? Don't be nervous about the diagram. I just started working on charts and they're easier than they look. Just make sure to remember where you are.

  18. Yay for the internet!

I always have many WIPs on the go at a time... I'm a serial cast-on-er. Different knits for different moods and differing amounts of mental energy!
