Our Annual Burns Supper

Today is the day that we celebrate the life and poetry of Robert Burns. In previous year my husband and I have been quite low key about this, but last year we held a Burns supper party for a few of our friends. We had a great time and have decided to do it again this year!

As usual there is still lots to do but you can rest assured that this afternoon my house will indeed be a place of haggis and whisky (although none for me as I'm pregnant!)

I will post later in the week with details of our party but for now I will leave you with a couple of recipes that I used last year!

Making progress

Since I found out I was pregnant I have been in two minds as to what I would make/knit for the baby,  if in fact anything. The reason behind me thinking I might not make anything is because I didn't make anything for Angus when I was pregnant with him. I also somehow managed to attach some feelings of guilt onto this, feeling that it wasn't fair to Angus. However, now that my morning sickness has gone and a new year has started I feel I really should make something for our new arrival. Also my husband told me I was being silly, he was right. I make things for Angus all the time so I don't feel guilty about making this baby some things.

So, what am I making... some of you may remember from when I was pregnant with Angus I started a baby blanket. There were a couple of problems with the blanket and it was never finished. I decided a couple of weeks ago that I would rip it out and start again. It's going much better than last time even with the small issue I had last week. I am now further with the blanket than I ever got when I was making it before and I am still feeling good about it and not bored. I mention the bored part as it's just plain garter stitch but at the moment that's about all my brain can handle!

This is what it currently looks like

I have done 2 of the 5 stripes so making good progress.

Also if you would like to read about the last attempt at the blanket you can find it here.

Eureka!!!!

While being pregnant I have been doing some out of character things, mainly forgetting things, which is very unlike me. But generally just being absent minded.
I go out on a Monday night to meet some lovely ladies and do some knitting, it's a lovely group and has an added bonus of pudding most weeks! I was there this week working on my blanket, all went well, I had a lovely pudding and a good catch up with the ladies. On Tuesday night I was knitting again and happened to glance down at my knitting and realised Monday night had not been as good as I thought. I had managed to miss out 20 rows of one colour and had started the next. Now for most knitters this would be annoying but not the end of the world, however, for me it was a disaster! This is mainly because I am rubbish at frogging, I either loose stitches and loose all the knitting. One of the ladies on a Monday night usually helps me but this was only Tuesday so I would miss a whole week of knitting. After sulking about this for a few days I decided I would just try and frog it, I have watched Vikki (the lovely lady who normally helps me) frog things a few times and thought I could give it a go.
Vikki has this method off putting a knitting needle through the row stitches she wants to keep and them she can pull put everything above that and not loose any knitting or stitches that she doesn't want too. So I tried it... I guess from the title of today's post you can guess how it went...I succeed!!!! I was so chuffed! Eureka!!!
Also thanks to a very accommodating husband and child I managed to get all the extra white rows done and redo all the yellow ones, so now I am back to where I had been and I've learnt a knew skill! Yay!
Here's the blanket all fixed!

Review of 2014

Before I start looking at this years projects I thought I'd share with you what I made last year!

I'll start at the top left hand corner

Pink baby bloomers
I made this as a gift for my friend when she had her little baby girl. They were really lovely to knit and pretty quick. The pattern also included some ribbing on the Legs but I left that off as I quick liked the way they curled up! I loved making these and I think if we are having a girl I might  need to make some more of these!

Christmas Stockings
I did blog about these last year which you can read about here. In total I've made 15 of these and need to make another 9 before December so that Angus can actually use it!

Little Easter Rabbit
I also blogged about this little guy which you can find here. I would defineltly make more of these but I've found a new pattern I want to try this year, so watch this space!

Heart Valentines Card
I blogged about this card last year, which you can find here

Kimono jacket
This was a first for me, I've owned a sewing machine for a number of years and have used it for the odd thing every now and then but I have never made an item of clothing. I heard about a beginners sewing class and decided to give it a go. I loved it and was really pleased with what I achieved! I will be looking for more classes this year and hopefully improve my skills.

Felt Christmas Decorations
This was another sewing class I heard about. What was even better about this one was that it was on my birthday. I had a lovely time at the class and again really pleased with my decorations. This is also something I think I can make at home so will hopefully make some more!

Double Pom Pom Chunky Hat
I made this for my friends little boy and you can read all about it here.

Wel that's it for last year. I'm pleased with everything I made last year just disappointed that I didn't make more! Must do better this year!

Enjoy your day! Angus are off to do some paint stamping to make thank you cards!

A new year, a new start

So it's another new year and here I am again with a renewed interest for my little blog. I think my problem in recent years is that I've tried to commit to too many things, so this year I am just going to be a bit more relaxed. I'm going to blog about my knitting, my boy and generally just about life. I'd love it if you would join me, stop by say hello, have a read and hopefully enjoy.

I'll also give you a quick update on life here at Knitting adventures. Not a lot has changed, Angus is now two and we are expecting our 2nd baby! That's probably plenty!

Be back soon! X
